01 — Boilerplate

SteppeFox Computing is a one-person independent software studio in Phoenix, Arizona. It publishes the Quiet family of apps — Quiet Ledger, Quiet Macro, Quiet Hearth, Quiet Habits, and Quiet Forge — privacy-first, local-first software for consumers and prosumers. The model is deliberately old-fashioned: you buy the software, you own it, and your data never leaves your device. No accounts, no backend, no telemetry. The studio is named for the corsac fox — a small, quiet fox with enormous ears that hears everything and says nothing.

02 — The name

SteppeFox — one word, capital S, capital F — is named for the corsac fox (Vulpes corsac), commonly called the steppe fox. Three facts about the animal map to how the studio works: it keeps to itself and doesn't perform; it has enormous ears and says nothing; and it doesn't dig its own dens — it moves into burrows other animals left behind, the way the software lives on the device you already own instead of servers we'd have to build.
