The Studio

One person. One fox. Several strong opinions about subscriptions.

01 — How it started

It started the way most good grudges do: with a budgeting app that wanted bank credentials, location access, and a monthly fee — to do arithmetic. Somewhere between the third "unlock premium insights" popup and a privacy policy that read like a ransom note, a thought occurred: software used to just work for you.

So this studio builds the other kind. Apps that run entirely on your device. Apps with no accounts, because there's nothing to log into. Apps you pay for once, because that's how buying things is supposed to work. The family is called Quiet, and the name is a spec, not a mood.

SteppeFox Computing is a one-person independent studio based in Phoenix, Arizona. The model is old-fashioned on purpose — small, careful, built to last longer than a funding cycle.

If the product is free, you're the product. If the product is four dollars, you're just… a customer. Weird, right? — the studio, probably at 2am

02 — Who's behind this

The Studio

Team size: one

One person, fully caffeinated, ships everything on this site and answers the contact form personally — occasionally at hours no doctor would endorse. The apps collect zero data about you; it seemed only fair the studio stays this understated about itself too.

03 — About the fox

The studio is named for the corsac fox (Vulpes corsac), known commonly as the steppe fox — a small, quiet fox of the Central Asian steppes and semi-deserts. Three facts about the animal turned out to be the entire brand.

Fact — 01

It keeps to itself

Small, unshowy, gets on with things. It doesn't perform, and neither do we — no launch theatrics, no growth hacks.

Fact — 02

Enormous ears

It hears everything and says nothing. Our apps work the same way: they listen to you, and they tell no one.

Fact — 03

It borrows dens

The corsac doesn't dig its own burrow — it moves into ones other animals left behind. We build no infrastructure that holds your data. The software lives in the space you already own: your device.

Curious what's cooking?

Five apps in progress. All of them mind their manners.
